JMU Federal Dukes Spotlight: Lisa Shea Mundt — The Pulse of GovCon

Professional Bio

Lisa Shea Mundt is the Co-Founder of The Pulse of GovCon, LLC — a small research and advisory firm that works with companies who contract with the Federal Government. She is an avid writer who taught the introductory writing course to college freshmen at JMU.

JMU Major / Year Graduated

WRTC + SMAD / 2011 Undergrad / WRTC 2013 Grad

Why did you choose JMU?

I chose JMU for the energy. It seems silly to pick a school for it’s vibe, but I needed somewhere that felt warm, hyper, and safe. JMU feels like wrapping yourself in your favorite blanket. The facilities, the history, and the people all impacted my decision.

How did your degree from JMU lead you to where you are today?

My WRTC degree taught me how to think. What is a Federal Proposal if not rhetorical? (see what I did there…)

What does working for the Federal Government community mean to you?

Working in GovCon means making an impact. My work can be the difference between a small business losing a contract or doubling in size. By presenting on Federal trends and spending analysis, I can educate contractors on where to invest to maximize ROI. And by calling out issues in procurement I can help make the process better.
