BS in ISAT / 2001

Why did you choose JMU?

They had a nationally ranked archery team and I fell in love with the campus when I visited to compete in archery tournaments in high school. I stumbled upon the ISAT program during orientation and immediately connected with the combination of math, science, technology, and the emphasis on practical application in all the available concentrations.

How did your degree from JMU lead you to where you are today?

The short answer is JMU literally put me on a bus to interview at the company I still work at 21 years later as part of on campus recruiting. The longer answer is that I was able to immediately apply my knowledge in software development and environmental sciences to work on a software product focused around chemical regulatory compliance. From there as I was able to take on expanded roles in my career I benefited from the foundation of collaboration and learning agility I picked up at JMU.

What does working for the Federal Government community mean to you?

After switching from private sector consulting to Federal consulting (and cybersecurity) in 2017 what has been most rewarding has been how dedicated this community is to improving our national security and how enthusiastic they are to share their knowledge with others. It is often said that cybersecurity is a “team sport” and the number of examples where government employees, contractors, suppliers, and educators act first and foremost in the interest of the mission is inspiring.
